hows that then? ive used twitter briefly and then signed up here not long back and find Jaiku alot easier and better to use and communicate with others
I find that comments on presence items, and the possibility to create a mashup of all my feeds are a plus. However, no SMS alerts = a definite minus. And wondering if "too much stuff in one service" could be an issue here.
True that all the people are at twitter,,,at the moment, although i read some article today [cant remember where as it was on my rss feed] that predicted twitter to die before the end of this year...hmmm
the only reason i checked this out is b/c twitter died momentarily, just while I was about to test its api to synchronize with my facebook status... its back now
but yea it's essentially the same; so far I'm liking the ability to import feeds into jaiku, but i see myself sticking to facebook status (which will propegate to twitter) and henceforth into jaiku
Eh? Been playing with both for a week now--Jaiku does have SMS alerts, so that's identical to Twitter. But I feel like everyone is using Twitter because, like MySpace, it's not better than Jaiku, but at the moment "everyone" is on it. But this is not a permanent condition.
I'm slowly migrating my set of friends away from Twitter because I love Jaiku's passive function--I don't HAVE to send an SMS to say where I am--my phone keeps track of that. This cuts down significantly on updates I have to send if I want this to be a useful service. Also the ability to comment on others' posts is nice--I hate getting snippets of conversations people are having with friends not in my friends list, especially when it fills up my SMS inbox with "Yeah, I heard that too", etc. Bulk deleting text messages is not fun.
I also like being able to see the next item on my friends' calendars, whether they've posted to their blog, their flickr streams, etc. Overall Jaiku just seems so much more comprehensive and "serious" than Twitter, that I'm actually considering using it for project coordination, something I'd never do with Twitter.
I signed up for Jaiku before I signed up for Twitter, but Twitter was around for a long time before it became well known. I think it predates Jaiku - at least Jaiku as it is now. I wouldn't call Jaiku a Twitter clone by any means, though. In fact, I predict Twitter will start copying some of Jaiku's best features before long.
My only problem here is the Cellphone support. an SMS number in the US would make me much happier. Additionally, most S60 uiq files either run or don't run on other symbian devices. The Jaiku client acts like it's going to run and then doesn't do anything, which is frustrating.
Seems like it doesn't really matter so much as to who came first, but more importantly who became well-known first. Ironically enough, the popularity of one seems to have benefited the other.
Well, Just as a note, I've noticed a great feature here. You never have to post directly to Jaiku. If you already have a Twitter, you can just add it as a feed, then anything you post to twitter is cloned here as well.

it probably depends on how you look at it: jaiku is like twitter plus.

Hasn't Jaiku been around WAAAAY longer than Twitter? Isn't Twitter the Jaiku clone?

That was an old post. I doubt that Chris even logs into Jaiku anymore!

The more I use jaiku, the more I like it. Twitter is my first love, but jaiku is my smoking hot mistress.

Its hilarious how when you search "Jaiku" in WikiPedia and it shows the results as Twitter ....
